The old Peters Chevrolet
Chrysler Jeep building soon will be transformed into a showroom for
plumbing fixtures and appliances.
Coburn's Supply Company has purchased the property that was
the Peters dealership's home for 40 years. Coburn will move its
plumbing fixtures and appliance distributorship into the
42,000-square-foot building in about three months, said Branch Manager
Terry Horn.
"Everybody is very excited about the opportunity, the
commitment to Longview and the surrounding area," said Regional
General Manager Darren Tramel. "We feel like Longview and the
surrounding area will continue to grow, and we are positioning ourselves
so people can come here, pick out everything they need without having to
drive to Dallas or Houston."
He said Coburn is a wholesale and retail distributor focusing
on plumbing fixtures and appliances. The store also sells
air-conditioning equipment, refrigeration and builder products.
Tramel said customers include plumbing, heating, air conditioning and
mechanical contractors, along with home builders and general contractors.
About 5,000 square feet of the new building will feature a
plumbing fixture and appliance showroom.
"It's going to be unique for Longview," Tramel
said. "It will be what a designer calls a pleasurable experience when
you walk in the store."
Tramel said the Longview store has 25 employees and will add five more
staff members when it moves to the larger store. Four full-time
employees, he said will be assigned to the showroom.
Tramel said the business has out-grown its 15,000-square-foot
building at 1010 W. Cotton St. that was built in 2000.
Horn said the business needed more interior space, but yard area
also is needed for storing utility piping and related supplies. The
new seven-acre site, he said, will meet that need.
The company, based in Beaumont, was established in 1934 by
the late Albert J. Coburn. Coburn has had a store in Longview since
1963.
Coburn operates distributorships throughout East Texas and
Louisiana.
Tramel said Coburn purchased the property from Larry Alston
and Dick Miller of General Partners. Alston and Miller bought the
property in 2003 from the family who had owned the dealership.
The purchase, Tramel said, only involved the main building on
the property. |
