James P. Maloney 

The funeral services for James P. Maloney will be held Thursday, 20 February 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Raben Horst Funeral Home at 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Visiting hours will be from 4:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:00 a.m. till service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.  Following the services he will be transported for interment to Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisiana for a 1:30 p.m. graveside service.

Mr. Maloney, 81, died at 11:05 a.m.  17 February 2003 at Our Lady of the Lake hospital from complications following a recent surgery.

Mr. Maloney was born 27 January 1922, the son of James P. Maloney Sr. and Esther Coburn Maloney.  He is survived by sisters Esther Fisher and Johanna Kotter, cousins Roberta Roberts and Peggy Watson, nieces and nephews Lynne Rawley, Phyllis Medle, Nicholas Meole, Kathleen Bernacchio, Charles Meole Jr., Kay Blocher, Kenneth Fisher, Jack Fisher, Mike Fisher, Donald Maloney, Arthur J. Maloney Jr., James Maloney, Joseph Serio Jr., Andrea Deaton, Joanne Loupes, James Kotter Jr., Don Kotter, Coby Kotter, Barbara Avila, Lynne Thomson, and Kay Williams.

James was preceded in death by sisters and brother Mary Elma Maloney, Julia Meole, Arthur Maloney, Lucille Serio, Ida Maloney, Joanita Thomson, cousin Rev. Albert Coburn Jr., Sister Ruth Coburn, Father John Reynolds, Mary Beth Atrinson, and nephew Leonard Fisher Jr.

Mr. Maloney attended elementary and high school in New Orleans and completed studies for a degree at Southwestern Louisiana University in Lafayette, Louisiana.

James enlisted at 18 years of age on August 1942 and became a member of the 141st Washington artillery of New Orleans, Louisiana that was part of the federal service of the USA army.  He served with the 8th Field Artillery Battalion and rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.  He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe.  Maloney received the Bronze Star medal, received Go 195 XIX corps medal, 1943, received the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars, received the American Offense Medal, received the victory medal World War II and the Presidential Testimonial.

He was discharged honorably from service May 1946.

Mr. Maloney completed his studies at South Western University and while attending school he worked part time at Coburn Supply Company – Lafayette Local Branch.  Following his graduation he became a full time and later assigned to the main office in Beaumont, Texas under the guidance of the President Albert J. Coburn.  Mr. Coburn a pioneer in supply distribution established a growing company with today has 34 branches throughout east Texas and Louisiana, supplying plumbing, heating, air conditioning and municipal supplies to contractors throughout the area.

James P. Maloney has served with distinction in every position he held in the company and as an employee and officer he has personal affection for the officers, the employees and with greatest concern to serve the business customers to the utmost of his ability.  Always going that extra mile to correct any mistake, make any adjustments, and to right any wrong.

Farewell James – God take care of him.  Those who called you James, and those who called you Mr. Maloney and those who called you Uncle James will miss you very much and they all loved you very much.  And the three special sidekicks Ray Minor, Karen Vidrine, and Pete Gulla who responded when you called, also loved you and they will miss you very much.
